Pre-Departure

Just over 2 weeks before I leave for Egypt. I'll be using this blog to post information on my trip so as to minimize duplication of emails. But in preparation, some background information:

I'm going on a 2 month short-term consultancy to Egypt to conduct an assessment of human trafficking. I'll start in Cairo, and spend the first month in Cairo and other locations (Alexandria, Sharm el Sheikh, etc), travelling with two other consultants. The next month will be a combination of writing the assessment report (I'll be based in Cairo) and conducting a workshop for local civil society organizations to raise awareness and knowledge of trafficking.

This forum will be mostly for general observations on my trip in Egypt (what I see, culture, etc) and pictures (which will be posted at summerincairo.shutterfly.com). Some of the information I'll be finding will be confidential, but some I'll share. If you have any questions about trafficking, please email me.

Also, if anyone has been to Egypt/Cairo and has recommendations of things to see/places to go, please let me know!

Leave tons of time for the Egypt museum and get a good guide to do it with you. It is amazing. Also, have a drink and a rest at the hotel near the pyramids. Don't be shocked at how small the spinx seems. Watch out for bagsheesh.
